Fun, Local Guide, Experienced Alaskan Captain
Ty grew up in Ketchikan and has been a resident of Alaska for 50 years. He’s spent most of his life on the water with over 26+ years fishing Alaska’s Inside Passage as a commercial fisherman and charter captain.
Whether fun fishing with family, commercial salmon trolling or guiding new friends, his light hearted personality shines through. His local knowledge of fish, techniques and waters keep fish on the line even when fishing is tough.
Ty’s parents moved to Alaska in 1975, when he was one. At age four he was ’hooked’ on fishing and by eight, Ty was spending most of his afternoons fishing at local docks. At 13, Ty and his friends were off skiffing through the islands of Clover Passage daily, trolling for salmon and jigging halibut. From 16-24, Ty commercial salmon fished his summers in Ketchikan while pursuing his engineering degree at Oregon State University. With a mechanical engineering degree in hand, Ty procured a unique contract engineer position that allowed him to work in the lower 48 but continue to fish the summers in Alaska. Soon after, Ty pursed his Coast Guard 6-Pack license paving the way for a life-long career in charter fishing.
Ty, his wife Amanda, two daughters, Mazie and Paige, and step son, Alex spend 4 full months in Ketchikan during the summer where they enjoy every adventure Alaska has to offer. The remainder of the year, they live in West Linn, Oregon where weekends are full of soccer, hiking and chilly Northwest camping trips.
